Rules: Trial of Bloodright

The Trial of Bloodright

As with the Trial of Position, this Trial is not mandatory. In the FASA Universe, a Bloodname is among the greatest honors a Clan Warrior can win, and ensures that the warrior's genes will be added to the gene pool for the next generation. It also makes the warrior eligible for high military and political Positions. According to FASA, no more than twenty-five living Clan warriors may hold the same Bloodname at one time. When one of them dies, a Trial of Bloodright is held among all potential candidates for that particular “Bloodheritage”. Candidates must be able to trace a matrilineal line to the Bloodname's original progenitor. For this reason, it in encouraged that Team members choose their “Blood-linage” when they first join the Team.

Each living holder of a Bloodname may nominate one candidate for a Trial of Bloodright, when a Bloodheritage becomes available. The Leader of a Bloodname house will nominate additional candidates to bring the total number to thirty-one. To bring the total number of contestants to 32, the final warrior is determined through a grand melee in which all “un-sponsored” candidates may fight. After the melee comes a series of one-on-one duels, often called a Bloodname tournament, in which the final winner is awarded the Bloodname.

Although not mandatory, it is recommended that each Clan adopt a method for bestowing a Bloodname upon their warriors. It is also recommended that each Team place a limitation of three (3) Bloodheritages per Bloodname, to prevent everyone and their dog from having the same Bloodname.
