Rules: Mech Allocation

Mech Allocation

Each Team in the Astral Dominion League will be pre-assigned Mechs to fill their organizational TO&E (Table of Organization & Equipment) for each Unit, and Sub-Unit. These Mechs are organized and assigned according to the forces indicated in Chaosmarch.com, as well as the Mech Conversion Table. A Lance (4) of Mechs with 3 of its Mechs destroyed will still be a Lance. It will merely be a “Lance –“(minus), and waiting re-supply to bring it back up to full strength. This will mean that Team Leaders will have to ensure that the forces that they are sending into battle are not suffering too badly from previous battle losses before sending them into another fight. You might send a Battalion on a Planetary Assault, but if that Battalion only has a handful of Mechs left, they may have a hard time of it.

Certain minimum Mech numbers will be required to perform different Mission types as detailed in the Combat Rules. As a General Guideline, however, most Defensive Mech actions will take place with a minimum of 1 (One) Star/Lance of Mechs, and Offensive Mech actions will take place with a minimum of 1 (One) Company/Trinary of Mechs. This could be 1 Single Mech however, if a particular Sub-Unit has not yet received its re-supply.

Mech Sub-Unit Makeup

At the beginning of the Campaign, Team Leaders will have little input as to the initial makeup of their Sub-Units, as they will be pre-assigned through the Automation. Game Mechanics obviously require that “substitutions” are used within the choices available in Mechwarrior 4: Mercenaries. Re-supply, as detailed later, will enable a Team Leader to slowly change the makeup of their Sub-Units on an “individual Mech-by Mech” basis. Although this may seem limiting at first, it must be remembered that most Mech Lances/Stars are already organized according to the role that they fill within a Team’s forces. Recon Lances generally use fast, light Mechs, while Assault Lances tend to have heavy hitting weapons platforms. Mixing these different Mech types in a real situation could reduce that Lance’s effectiveness. Try and use your Units for what they were designed.

Each Team TO&E was based off of the information available at the time of generation, and is explained in the following manner:

Each Team will have a finite number of “Mech Slots”. These slots, whether they have been assigned a Mech or not, represents an “able bodied Mechwarrior” in the service of that particular Team. In the case of Mech Slots that are designated as “Vacant”, or are listed as “- - - - - - - “, that particular Mechwarrior is currently “dispossessed”, and is awaiting issue of a Mech from a Team’s reserves, as denoted in the Re-supply Rules. Each Team’s TO&E will be broken down in the following manner:

Regiment/Galaxy: This represents the largest independent Mech Organization in a Team’s TO&E. Attempts have been made to ensure that Regimental and Galaxy Names are as accurate as possible. Each Inner Sphere Regiment in the League will normally have a MINIMUM of 3 Battalions worth (108) of Mech Slots, which will be filled up according to documentation that was used at the time of generation. Certain "Reinforced" Regiments have been known to contain 4 Battalions, and these are accurately depicted. Each Clan Galaxy can consist of up to as many as 5 Clusters of (375) Mech Slots.

Battalion/Cluster: This represents the second largest independent Mech Organization in a Team’s TO&E. Each Inner Sphere Battalion in the League normally has 3 Companies worth of (36) Mech Slots, which were filled according to documentation available at the time of generation. Each Clan Cluster can consist of as many as 5 Trinaries (75) of Mech Slots. As in the case of Inner Sphere Battalions, these slots were filled according to documentation available at the time of generation.

Company/Trinary: This represents the SMALLEST Mech Organization in a Team’s TO&E that may be used for OFFENSIVE Planetary Assault Operations (although a force will usually consist of more than a single Company/Trinary). Each Inner Sphere Company will normally contain 12 Mech Slots, which were filled according to documentation available at the time of generation. Each Clan Trinary normally consists of as many as 3 Stars of (15) Mech Slots. As in the case of Inner Sphere Companies, these slots were filled according to documentation available at the time of generation. Clans also contain a Formation called a Binary (10 Mech Slots). These Binary Organizations can also be used for Offensive Operations, in the same way that a full Trinary may be used.

Lance/Star: This represents the SMALLEST Mech Organization in a Team’s TO&E that may be used for DEFENSIVE Operations, or a Recon. Each Inner Sphere Lance will contain a MAXIMUM of 4 Mech Slots, which were filled with a specific Mech Chassis. A Clan Star will normally contain 5 Mech Slots. Nova Stars (Double Stars) will contain up to 10 Mechs.

Unit: This 3 or 4 letter designation represents a Team’s Full Name in the League Database.

Mech: The number assigned to this slot represents that particular Mechwarrior. When combined with the Unit designator, and the Chassis name noted below, you have the following combination:

                                    Unit 001 Mech Chassis

This information will be critical to the effective operation of League Battles. Team Leaders are to ensure that they are both working off of the same sheet of music, so to speak, so that the Mech on one Team Leader’s Battle Report, is the same as one on the others.

Chassis: This represents the actual Mech Chassis type that is in a current Mech Slot. When labeled as “Vacant” or “- - - - - - - “, then that particular Slot can be considered to represent a “dispossessed” Mechwarrior, who is awaiting a new Mech.

Location: This represents the current location of a particular Mech, and was determined according to documentation available at the time of generation.

Honor Points: Although detailed further in the “Clan Rules”, these points are not used by Inner Sphere Teams, and represent the “Honor” of each Mechwarrior in a Clan’s Touman. When combined into each of the Clan’s larger Organizations, they can be tallied to determine the Total Honor of a Clan’s Trinary, Cluster, Galaxy, or even the Clan as a whole. Clan Honor will be used according to the Honor Rules noted in the “Clan Rules” Chapter.
